Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The 2011 University of Cambridge election for the position of Chancellor is an ongoing election which was called after the incumbent Chancellor, Prince Philip announced he would be retiring on 30 June 2011, shortly after his 90th birthday. He had been Chancellor since December 1976.The electorate consists of all members of the University holding a higher degree from Cambridge. In effect, this means that every Cambridge graduate holding a degree other than a bachelors degree (save the BD) has a vote. Traditionally, Cambridge offers an upgrade of a BA to an MA seven years after undergraduates matriculate, i.e. three or four years after they graduate, depending on the length of their BA course. Additionally, MAs are offered to some senior members of staff, to make them a senior member of the university. As members of the Senate, holders of other Cambridge Masters' and Doctoral degrees also have a vote as well.
