Thomas Virgil Stallcup (January 3, 1922 — May 2, 1989) was an American professional baseball player, a shortstop who played in seven Major League seasons (1947-53). Nicknamed "Red," the native of Ravensford, Swain County, North Carolina, threw and batted right-handed, stood 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) tall and weighed 185 pounds (84 kg). Major League Baseball (MLB) is the highest level of professional baseball in the United States and Canada, consisting of teams that play in the National League and the American League. The two leagues merged in 2000 into a single MLB organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball after 100 years as separate legal entities.
